Okay, I’ll preface this with — I was a Twilight hater when the books and movies were at their peak. I watched the movie once as a teen and was thoroughly unimpressed, then I “tried” to read the first book and abandoned it within a couple pages.
As a 30-year old during hoa hoa hoa season, my workplace hosted a Twilight viewing and I had to give it another shot.
Now I do credit some of the memes I’ve seen for my enjoyment of this movie, but I fully believe it was a cultural movement and should be required viewing to understand the 2000’s/early 2010s.
Altogether it’s such a campy, vibey experience that is hard to put into words unless you were there. The dialogue is especially bad, and I really think Stewart and Pattinson did the best they could with what they were given.
I honestly did enjoy the Twilight filter and they way they differentiated the PNW and Arizona. It’s a bit heavy handed, but effective.
✨
Also, even though no one asked, here’s my 8 year old’s commentary:
“Mom, aren’t vampires supposed to burn up in the sunlight? Or disappear?”
“In Twilight, they sparkle.”
“….that’s dumb.”
🍎
“I’m team Edward and Bella all the way. They’re perfect for each other.”
🥀
“Why didn’t he turn Bella into a vampire? That would have been better.”
✨
It was terrible, and I fully recommend it.
