Miragewitch
K.V. Meadows

Thank you K.V. Meadows for letting me beta read this novella! All opinions are my own.
Generally, I don’t review beta reads but since Meadows is not running an ARC campaign, I am making an exception to tell people about this work!
Featuring a sunshiney secluded witch and the grumpy assassin sent to kill her, Miragewitch sent me through the full range of human emotions.
United against a common cause, our two very different protagonists form a reluctant alliance and traipse through a magical swamp filled with both beauty and horrors on the quest of a lifetime.
Thorne, the assassin, is a very stoic and reserved character who rarely cracks a smile. I found myself desperately wanting to know more about him — and so did Esmeray. Their banter, or, Esmeray’s mostly, was one of my favorite parts of the storytelling.
In a similar fantasy/magical realism style as Meadows’ Dance of the Copsewood, this story features a setting that is practically a character on its own, testing the characters’ resolve and limits as learn about themselves and each other.
Much like K.V.’s other books, this also features diverse characters — in this case an interracial romance, with mentions of mental health struggles and chronic pain.
While there is an important overarching plot, this little witchy romance is ultimately character driven, with fantastic character depth and development and some fun spicy scenes to tie it together.
K.V. Meadows never disappoints, and Miragewitch will be an autobuy for me when it releases on July 13th.
