Book Review: Echoes of Void and Ruin

Echoes of Void and Ruin
Book 2 of the Scorched Divide series
By TC Jenson

This novel blew me away! Since this is the second in a series, I’ll do my best not to spoil anything but for my spoiler-free review of book one, Echoes of Hollow and Ember, click here.

Our heroines, the Prophesied Pair Leola and Juniper, have been recruited by the resistance. But as they learn more about their powers and the state of their world, and a dark family secret comes to light, the two sisters become more isolated from each other — and Juniper worries that there is something deeply wrong with her magic.

Featuring a very slow burn love story, Echoes of Void and Ruin is primarily a story of trauma — learning to heal, learning to keep fighting injustice, and learning to let others in. Jenson masterfully weaves in the realities of PTSD and self-isolation with the very real need to keep masking, performing, and being “enough” when your world is falling apart.

The growth of the sisters’ magic is quite a ride, as is the developing romance that I’ve been SCREAMING for since the characters met in book one. I loved the realm-crossing within visions and the mystery presented in the form of a strange, masked villain. I also LOVED learning more about Levi’s past, motivations, and powers.

Following in the footsteps of book one, the evil in this story is rooted deeply in the reality of propaganda, racism, and control. Exploring themes of power and corruption, betrayal, and love, Echoes of Void and Ruin is a must-read for fans of political fantasy and sci-fi.

Thank you to TC Jenson for the advance readers copy. All opinions are my own.
