The Light of Souls

Recently, I won a book giveaway. All I knew about the book was this:

1) It was written by an indie author.

2) Fantasy/cyberpunk with found family

3) It has a gorgeous cover ✨

The Light of Souls blew me away!

The story features 20 year old Avery, a young woman with a mysterious past on the run from a very dangerous mage. She stumbles into a small town using her only clue about her past: a book with a handwritten dedication to her mother from the author. Through this connection, Avery learns more about herself but simultaneously unearths even more questions. With help from her new friends, she formulates a plan to aid her on her journey of self discovery – and maybe, to help save the realm.

The world is a breathtaking dystopia, giving The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes mixed with darker Studio Ghibli. The magic system is beautifully intricate, featuring many kinds of elemental magics as well as clairvoyant, destructive, and maybe more.

I loved the enemies to something storyline and Avery’s genuine relationships with the people in town. I don’t want to spoil anything else about her journey of self discovery, but I was holding my breath waiting to see what would happen next.

I also admired her drive to learn to fight, and the strong lady knight vibes she gave off despite her (relatable) impulsivity.

Ultimately, The Light of Souls is an excellent novel about determination, friendship, and self discovery.

I have so many questions about Avery’s past, as well as a partial theory. I absolutely recommend this book and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for book two!
