The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year is a Christmas romance/mystery, and I’ll be upfront that this is far from my normal genre.
It was… solidly okay. I struggled to take the book seriously either as a mystery or a romance, and I have qualms with the predictability as well as the way things were wrapped up.
I think, perhaps, I tried to take the book seriously when it wasn’t meant to be. I did find that when I imagined the main character, Maggie, as if she were played by Anna Kendrick, that it made the book a lot more enjoyable.
If I ever have to hear or read the phrase “Ethan Freaking Wyatt” again, I might puke.
The background behind our obnoxious love interest calling Maggie, Marcie, was cute though.
Honestly I just don’t believe that these supposedly incredible mystery authors didn’t figure out the villain sooner. I pegged him the moment he was introduced.
I do think you would enjoy this book if you are looking for a read that is lighthearted, sweet, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. The banter and commentary was entertaining, but i found myself more invested in the side characters than the main character.
Sorry, Ally Carter, I think this one was a miss for me.
