Okay, I am impressed.
HJ Nichols had a great debut with The Lost Deer Queen (read my review here), but its sequel blows it out of the water.
The False Serpent King takes every question and loose end from book one and expands upon them, weaving a truly intricate web of stories, legends, characters, motives, and settings.
Gone are the cozy vibes from book one – The False Serpent King is a tale of desperation and war.
It is rare that I’m surprised by a twist these days, but HJ Nichols greatly impressed me by teasing a Fae romantasy with Bachelorette vibes, and then blindsiding me with a political high fantasy with impossibly high stakes and twist after twist.
Prophecies, witches, Fae, demons, fated mates, enemies to allies, friendship, family secrets, and the most FRUSTRATING romance… it’s all here.
I highly recommend The False Serpent King. Just do yourself a favor and read book one first.
I am desperately awaiting book 3.
