Hey y’all, long time no see! I’m easing my way back into regular reviews but until then, enjoy my thoughts on Amazon’s Deadloch.

If you enjoy murder mysteries, comedy, and satire, Deadloch is the show for you. With endless twists, somehow caricatured-but-still-real characters, and an admittedly heavy handed feminist message, the show will keep you giggling and guessing.
Our two lead characters are female detectives who are as different as night from day: Eddie (Madeleine Sami); a tomboyish, obnoxious woman whose primary fashion sense is oversized Hawaiian shirts and sandals and Dulcie (Kate Box); an uptight lesbian with a passion for solving crime and fitted suits.

When one lone murder turns into a string of murders, the detectives realize they have a serial killer on their hands. The target? Cishet white men (your usual profile for a serial killer, ironically.)
The detectives are sent on wild goose chase after red herring as they navigate romantic relationships and struggle to find common ground throughout the course of the show. However, one common enemy does unite our women: Commissioner Shane Hastings (Hayden Spencer.) Will our detective team beat the clock and save the town’s undesirables from being the next target?
The Tasmanian woods make for a beautiful backdrop for this gory story, and the cinematography is stellar.
Deadloch explores small town drama, racism, sexism, homophobia, and more with a lighthearted tone and outrageous twists. The cast is also phenomenal, featuring Nina Oyama, Tom Ballard, Alicia Gardener, Duncan Fellows, and more in iconic roles you can’t help but love.

Altogether, I’d give the show a 7/10, primarily because I guessed the killer several episodes before the finale and because of the heavy handedness of the satire.
With that said, for some great entertainment I highly recommend Deadloch, available to stream on Amazon Prime.
